Mogotsi avails himself to appear before Ad Hoc Committee
The Ad Hoc Committee probing KZN Police Nhlanhla Mkwanazi’s allegations starts on Tuesday.
North West businessman Brown Mogotsi says he is prepared to avail himself to the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkwanazi.
The Ad Hoc Committee sitting, which starts on Tuesday follows Mkhwanazi’s damning allegations of political meddling in law enforcement operations and members of criminal cartels embedding themselves with politicians for nefarious ends.
The first witness expected to take the stand is Mkhwanazi himself followed by the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with SABC News, Mogotsi says, “I am on the list of the Ad Hoc Committee. I don’t know if you are aware that the Ad Hoc Committee is not empowered to extract facts. It’s not even empowered to protect sources or informants or me. Therefore, such things can only be done in the commission.”
Mogotsi says he is also waiting with bated breath to make his appearance at the Madlanga Commission.
He says, “Yes I am willing to appear before the commission. Audi alteram partem ensures the rights of an individual to give their side of the story, but significantly what I’d like to raise with you; I thought (Crime Intelligence Head) General (Dumisani) Khumalo, General Mkhwanazi or General Masemola would provide the commission with proof of Section 205, which allows them to have access to cellphones, if not how are they going proof that these things belong to us? How are we going to prove that this message is my message?”
