Magaqa murder case postponed to November

The Sindiso Magaqa murder case at the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, has been postponed to next month, to hear arguments about a state application that a defence advocate recuse himself due to an alleged conflict of interests.

State prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba told the court that Advocate Shane Matthews previously represented hitman Sibusiso Ncengwa, who has pleaded guilty to the murder of the former ANC Youth League secretary general in 2017.

He is now a state witness.

Advocate Matthews has appeared for the former Umzimkhulu municipal manager Zweliphansi Sikhosana on Monday.

Sikhosana joined the other accused Mbulelwa Mpofana and Sbonelo Myeza in the dock.

KwaZulu-Natal NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara elaborates: “The matter appeared in court today in Pietermaritzburg High Court and the state advised that it will be bringing an application with regards one of the legal representation in this matter. The matter was adjourned to the 6th of November 2025 for the state to bring that application.”
