Technical glitch threatens Witness X’s life at Madlanga Commission
Witness X testified remotely at the Madlanga Commission before encountering technical glitches.
The Madlanga Commission Chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, says the inquiry has run into technical difficulties that have the potential to threaten Witness X‘s life.
He made an order that Witness X’s evidence be read on record by evidence leader Adv Adila Hassim SC.
Witness X was testifying remotely through an intermediary on Tuesday morning before encountering technical difficulties.
Madlanga says the decision to have Witness X’s evidence delivered through Hassim is one that was not taken lightly, as the commission values transparency.
He says, “Transparency cannot be at the risk of endangering the safety of Witness X. Thus, we must adopt a different format for how Witness X’s evidence must be tendered. In due course, the commission will decide on how and when questions may be asked with regard to the testimony.”
Witness X earlier exposed WhatsApp messages between attempted murder accused Vusi “Cat” Matlala and KwaZulu-Natal Hawks Head Lesetja Senona.
The chats showed the two discussing the purchase of property by Matlala for Senona’s son, Thato.
Witness X testified remotely through intermediary Thabang Pooe that they have not been able to confirm whether the purchase of the property went through or not.
