ANC in KZN to meet with IFP over political differences

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal says it is in the process of engaging with the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) to discuss, among other things, political differences between them.

This follows the removal of the ANC’s Siphile Mdaka as Umkhanyakude District mayor by the IFP.

The IFP was supported by other parties including the Economic Freedom Fighters and the National Freedom Party through a motion of no confidence.

Mdaka was replaced by IFP member, Comfort Khumalo.

Coordinator of the ANC’s provincial task team, Mike Mabuyakhulu, says the ANC is disappointed with the actions by the IFP.

Mabuyakhulu says they see this as a defining moment in the relationship between the two parties.

“We want to say categorically as the ANC that it is unfortunate the IFP took a decision to go there together with other political parties and decide to remove us form the leadership of Umkhanyakude District Municipality. We regard this as a defining moment in our relationship. Having said that though, the ANC and the IFP are in the process of setting up a meeting so that we can be able to sit together and discuss (these issues) and our position remains as such until such time that the ANC and IFP have own discussions over the matters that we must deal with.”
