The South African Communist Party (SACP) has strongly condemned the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. The US says its forces captured Maduro and his wife in Venezuela’s capital Caracas on Saturday.
Maduro is being detained at a US prison.
SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila says the Trump administration is in fact after the multi-trillion dollar oil and gas reserves in the Latin American country.
“Maduro is in this situation because of the 1950s oil deal between the US and Venezuela.”
