Ramaphosa weighs in on Masemola summons, will provide update soon
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola is due to appear in court on April 21.
President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is consulting relevant stakeholders about the summons issued to National police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola.
Masemola has been issued with a summons to appear in court on the 21st of April over the R360 million SAPS health services contract awarded to alleged cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Matlala’s Medicare 24 Tswane District company’s tender was cancelled in May last year after it was flagged for procurement irregularities and under-performance.
12 senior police officers including generals appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Wednesday on corruption, fraud and money laundering charges related to the contract.
Ramaphosa says he will soon provide an update on the matter.
“I am having conversations with the various people who are involved in the security cluster and we will be making an announcement soon about what I am going to do. So, it will be coming soon, watch the space.”
PFMA
Meanwhile, SABC News has reliably learnt that General Masemola could be facing four counts in relation to his alleged failure to comply with provisions of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The counts relate to the period between May 2024 and May 2025 where it’s alleged that Masemola in his capacity as the “accounting officer” of the South African Police Services allegedly failed to comply with the PFMA in four instances with respect to the multi-million rand Medicare 24 Tswane District contract.
