DA names Haniff Hoosen as its eThekwini mayoral candidate
Last week, the DA announced Helen Zille as its Joburg mayoral candidate.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that Haniff Hoosen is its mayoral candidate for the eThekwini metro in next year’s local government elections.
DA leader John Steenhuisen says the party is ready to fix service delivery issues in the metro. He says the results of the recent by-election are a strong indication that it will do well in 2026.
Steenhuisen says South Africa and the Durban metro in particular stand at a critical crossroads. Steenhuisen warns that rolling blackouts and alleged water syndicates are holding the country hostage.
He says Durban residents deserve a government that works for them, not against them.
The DA won Ward 64 with over 60% of the votes last week.
Hoosen served as a councillor in eThekwini before he was deployed to Parliament from 2007 to 2024.
